Eclecticism in a historic Brussels environment.
We designed the interior of a small apartment in the heart of the historic buildings of Brussels, which harmoniously fits into the context of its surroundings. In our approach, we used eclecticism, a style that, in our opinion, is best suited to such environments. It allows us to create the impression of a continuous life process, avoiding the artificiality that is often inherent in rigid stylistic frameworks.
In the design, we preserved elements characteristic of Brussels architecture, such as high ceilings and authentic window frames, and harmoniously integrated modern solutions, in particular, functional furniture and minimalist lighting. This dialogue between the past and the present creates a unique atmosphere that reflects the dynamics of life in a historic environment. The use of natural wood, marble, textile accents and light metal details adds warmth and depth to the interior. These materials provide a connection with traditional Brussels interiors, while maintaining a modern aesthetic. The compactness of the apartment required rational use of every square meter. We included multifunctional furniture, hidden storage systems and adaptive solutions that allow changing the purpose of the space depending on the needs.
In an environment where every house breathes history, the interior should not look too modern or, conversely, overly stylized for past eras. Eclecticism allows you to preserve the character of the place, creating the feeling that the interior has developed organically with the building. The eclectic approach allows you to integrate different stylistic elements, while maintaining the integrity of the image. Eclectic design in such a context is the optimal solution that combines historical heritage and modern needs. It does not try to copy the past or overly emphasize modernity. It is a style that works with the context, leaving space for natural life and harmonious interaction of residents with the environment in which they live.
